Hide Certain Pages Links in Dynamic Views

Before
After
If you've chosen Dynamic Views template from the very beginning, chances are you're never gonna find a way to hide some of your pages links. Sure, you can delete your pages altogether to permanently hide these links from showing in your pages tabs. But there is way to still keep these pages and at the same hide their links alone from showing on your header bar. And here's how (no codes this week!).

Step 1:

Go to Dashboard - Pages - Show Pages as - Top tabs - Save arrangement.

Step 2:

Go to Dashboard - Layout. You should now be able to see a new gadget titled 'Pages', on your right sidebar. Click Edit on it. The rest is self-explanatory (uncheck the boxes to hide your links).

  1. Yo YoBoy (hey that rhymes!) first of all, thank you so much for your tutorials. Question, Ive been trying to categorized certain pages under different categories on my tab menu using a dropdown menu, but to no avail.

For instance, Category 1 (Dropdown), mouse over, drops down Post 1, Post 2. Next to it, Category 2 (Dropdown), mouse over, drops down Post 3 and Post 4. Can this be done? Oh, im using dynamic view btw.

How can i create different groups of categories under the tab menu? From one of your previous tutorial, its either group all pages or nothing. Is this the case? Are there no workaround to it? Thanks alot my man

    1. Yo Anon,

Unfortunately there isn't any way to do so at the moment. Like you've said in your comment, either it's all or nothing. Even though there are ways to edit Dynamic Views template now, it seems like any kind of HTML change will be ignored, as DV 'intelligently' fetches all the important elements that it needs - leaving out the custom mod that you've added. Hope this makes sense.

    2. Wow, you lost me at "There isn't any way to do so at the moment". Ok, at the risk of sounding stupid, is it possible to do a child extension from the dropped down item? For instance :

Mouse over Categories(Parent) --> Drops down Subcategory 1
      Mouse over Subcategory 1 --> Drops down/side Post1, Post2
Then Post 1 and Post 2 will be direct web address links.

Pardon me if i'm repeating my questions, just wanna cover all ground here. Thanks again my man

    3. I understand your query, but I'm afraid any kind of manipulation to the default drop-down menu isn't possible at the moment. The scripts are just gonna ignore our mods when they fetch the elements that they need. If it is to be done, the scripts itself needs to be modified. This isn't practical as these scripts are hosted at Google, and we don't have access to it.

    1. Will, are you referring to Step 1 or Step 2? If you can't find pages gadget in Step 2, go back to Step 1 and make sure it has been set to 'Top Tabs', as shown in Step 1 above.

  4. Hi,

Thank you for your information. I am using a drop-down menu but I cant see all my pages in the homepage of my blog when I click in the arrow. Is there a limit number of pages I can include it?

    Thanks!

    1. I'm not aware of any limit on the number of links that you can show in your menu. What's your blog's address btw?

In any case, try going to Dashboard - Layout - Pages - Edit and make sure all your boxes are checked..

    1. Hi there,

What's your blog's address? Usually, when you have too many pages or if your pages titles are too long, your pages links will be forced to go into a dropdown menu no matter what you do..

  6. this seemed to be a a perfect solution for me, but it doesn't work for my problem. Blogger seems to just ignore what I've unchecked, it keeps showing the whole published pages :(
Have you any idea what's wrong with it?

Anyway, your blog is awesome! I'm glad I discover you :D

  8. Hey, thanks for the awesome tutorial.

I have been searching for a way, to make my header image take the shape of a banner that pulls from the stories, linking in some images and then if you click on them it takes you to that story. Do you know anyway to do that?

    1. In a non-dynamic template, they have pre-made third party widgets called 'sliders' that could do what you're looking for. In a Dynamic View template, not possible though, unless if you have the skills to completely restructure your Dynamic View template. Even then, it's gonna be very challenging.

      Cheers :)

  9. Thanks for this amazingly helpful website!

I have utilized a number of your posts to customize my blog. http://www.numberblog.com

but sometimes when I pull up my site the css changes are not reflected there. ie: the logo image doesn't show up, the colors are not changes etc...

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Dreg,

You're referring to what I call a Ghost Template. It is far more common than you think. I've brought this to Google's attention, and the best they can come up with is "I think your blog has more CSS that your Internet speed can handle".. Basically, they were blaming the customizations. But the truth is, I've seen the ghost template appearing in brand new blogs with no customizations at all..

  10. Hi Yoga

I want to hide some (not all) Web-Address-Pages from the menu. How can I do that?

    1. Hi Lukas,

Follow the steps above, and hide one of your Pages link first (by unchecking the box in Step 2). Next, go to Dashboard - Pages, scroll down a little, and you should see a section for hidden pages. You can click and drag your web-address-pages to that section to hide it.

  12. Has the blogger interface changed since you published this? I have a number of web address links in my blog (www.urbanARCHnow.com) which were customised using this feature, which I want to change now. But I dont see the show pages as dropdown any more and cant create web address pages. There is a gadget for pages under layout, but it doesn't show up in dynamic templates. It seems that they have changed the way that this is done?? Thanks in advance for your help! great blog.

    1. The Blogger interface changes all the time. To add links to your Pages now, go to Dashboard - Layout - Pages - Edit - Add link page.

    2. Yes, this works using non-dynamic templates but not for dynamic templates. If I revert to normal templates it works fine, but when I go back to dynamic, the pages gadget under layout no longer controls the page list

    3. Are you not able to add links using Dashboard - Layout - Pages - Edit - "Add link page" in Dynamic templates? I am able to add links fine to my dynamic template using the Gadget edit page.

    4. does not work for me (and some other people I found on the blogger help forum). the pages gadget does not reflect on the page, simply stays as is before the blogger layout change. appears to be an unsolvable bug :(

    5. That's odd. Has anyone escalated this to Blogger team? Do you have a forum link I can have look at?

    6. I've tried- unfortunately, the forum is pretty much ignored by the Blogger team:

    1. Blogger has changed some of their interface again, and the Pages page got changed. You need to do this via the Template page now. What's your blog's address btw? Try going to the Template section and drag your Pages gadget to sit above your Post gadget.
