Force Gadgets to Stay Visible in Blogger Dynamic Views

Before
After
Second post of the week! Your Dynamic Views gadgets would hide itself by default after a few seconds upon loading. It'd reappear when you bring your mouse over it. If you find this annoying, here's how you can force it to stay unhidden and remain visible at all times.

Go to Dashboard --> Template --> Customize --> Advanced --> Add CSS --> paste the following code --> Press enter after the last character of the last line } --> Apply to Blog.
#gadget-dock{
position: fixed !important;
right: 0px !important;
}

Extra:

If you've used one of my other tweaks to reposition your gadget from the right to the left, use the following code instead to keep your gadgets visible.
#gadget-dock{
position: fixed !important;
left: 0px !important;
}
Cheers!

    1. Hi China,

      Thanks for your comment - I enjoyed reading it! As for your quickedit question, do you have a forum link I can look into? I could escalate your discussion to a Google Employee so that they can have a look - although half the time it ends up in disappointment.

      As for the Feedjit question, I don't see a way to bring it into DV at the moment, although I've already added it into my list of things to look at. I'll publish a post if I ever find a way.

      Thanks for the Paypal suggestion. It never occurred to me! And here's me returning favor. In your blog, it appears that you've repositioned your gadget too far from the top of your blog. Though it might have looked good in your computer, it will affect the way your blog is shown in smaller/standard screened computers (like mine!). This is what it looks like in my computer: http://i.imgur.com/Lcixn.png. You might wanna pull it up a little.

      Happy blogging China!

      The built in Facebook share button is the closest thing to Facebook button that we can have. At the moment, we can't add any additional HTML mods to incorporate Facebook like button. Let's see if this changes in the future :)

    Great Tips Here.
    Very useful indeed for a blogger. Thanks.
    This is wonderful too. But not Awesome. LOL
    Because the word "Awesome" is, as far as i know is used only to God Almighty. Either We can take it for ourselves or others can render on us. So Be Careful on this. I wonder many use this word very lavishly when they even post a comment.
    Hope you got the seriousness of this.

      It doesn't matter where you're from, they should work :) When I viewed your source, I don't see any custom code at all. Are you sure what you're entering to your blog is staying in your blog? You can check this by going to 'Add CSS'. Can you see what you've left there previously? If you don't, that could mean a problem with your browser. Try using a different browser. Cheers! :)

  9. Hi there!

    SO happy to find your blog, because I love dynamic views but it needs some tweeks. However, when I add the code above everything looks great on my Startpage, but on my pages "About me", the post drifts to the right after inserting the code. And, that does not look good:(

    I combined this code with the one where you change the background color for gadgets (if that matters). Any suggestiosn as to how I can keep the postfield on my pages centered AND have the gadgets stay put?

    I have the removed the code now to keep my blog looking good, but if it helps, there is a link to it below.

    here: First, i written 2 post using mongolian language which not list in google translation. The thing is when i finished my post, when i see my post it looks not fully. Only i can see first 4 lines, in addition i can't see my pictures.
    Second, I wanted to add Facebook and Twitter ADD button, and if possible sharing buttons which supports DV in Blogger.
    Third, when you visited my blog i changed sidebar that can visible everytime. But i can not do this at the header's menu section / which includes Home, Dynamic views, etc /
    Fourth, I really do not understand about the page sections, but i do understand how it looks. The fact is, the page section just looks like post. I want to how can i add sub menus and drop down menus.
    Last thing, can you help me to find out the latest blog which uses Dynamic Views and other useful gadgets, etc. Thank you for your time, Yogaratnam N. I am waiting your kindest reply ever. Reply me back as soon as possible, i hope you are a life saver. I will see you soon.

    1. Hey bro,

      1) I cant find any image code in your blog. In any case, it'll be too heavy if we were to discuss this issue here. Create a discussion in Blogger Help Forum, and let me know its link. We'll continue this discussion there.

      2) It is not possible to add any sharing buttons to DV at the moment, at least not practically.

      3) Add this to your CSS:

      #header .header-drawer.sticky{
      margin-top: 31px !important;
      }

      4) The page sections are just individual posts, which you'd like to use for permanent purposes. You could use it to add 'About Me' or 'Contact Us' pages.. These contents wont be suitable in posts, thus the reason for the existence of Pages. Unfortunately, you can't add any custom drop-down menu to DV as of yet. See if this interests you:
      http://www.southernspeakers.net/2011/11/drop-down-pages-gadget-menu-in-blogger.html

      5) Don't think it is possible. You could start a discussion in the Coffee Shop of Blogger Help Forum, and ask people to share their DV blog links.

      Cheers!

      If you delete all other codes in your Add CSS box, all the previous tweaks that you have applied to your blog will be removed - and it isn't necessary. 1. Hi there,

      You can't add Facebook script to HTML/Javascript gadget, as it is not support in Dynamic Views. The only way to add scripts at the moment is through your posts' Edit HTML section - which means you're gonna have to do it one by one for all your posts - which obviously isn't feasible.

      As for AdSense, I'd advise you to switch to a non-dynamic template first and make sure your ads are appearing. I'm not sure if adding adsense code via HTML/Javascript is gonna have any effect, but try using the Dashboard - Earning tab as well. Choose 'Yes' where it says 'Show ads on blog.'

      Cheers.

      It doesn't look like you're using a dynamic template. In any case, most external scripts do not work with Dynamic View templates. The only feasible way to add a code to a dynamic view template is to add it directly to your post's HTML, which you'd have to do one by one, for all your posts.

If it doesnt work, you can add your code directly to your 'Edit HTML' box, by going to Dashboard - Template - Edit HTML - Proceed, but do backup your template before changing anything in your HTML.

I have a popular craft blog with lots of craft photos .Switched to dynamic when some readers told me the blog took long to load.I generally tend to get an average of 2 followers with each new post but since my sidebar gadgets with the follow button was not clear...I did not see the usual increase in followers after switching to dynamic.Thanks to your post I have now customized the sidebar issue.
    Some readers seem to be having problems in leaving comments in the dynamic view..I cant understand the exact issue...can you please guide

    1. Hi Sonia,

      First of all, nice blog you've got there, kudos!

      As for the comments, it looks like there isn't anything wrong with your blog. Could you ask your readers (those who couldn't leave comments) to check how many sidebar gadgets they're seeing?

      This is because at times, when the viewer's internet speed is (extremely) slow, a lighter version of the template will be loaded. This version will have comment disabled by default, and there will be only one sidebar gadget on the gadget-dock (namely the 'Subscribe' gadget).

      This feature isn't exactly by design, Google is still investigating the issue, and so far, they could only deduce that slow internet speed or very high load of blog elements (unlikely in your case) could trigger it.

      Cheers :)

    5. Hi Roy,

      What do you mean boy a normal side-panel of tags? As in, the sidebar that comes with a non-dynamic template? Unfortunately, the gadget dock is the only gadget sidebar that we can add to Dynamic templates. You can use the code in the post tutorial in this page to force your gadget to stay visible. That's as far as we can go for now..

      Cheers :)

    6. Yoga, you are amazing. I've been trying to figure out forever (including through the blogger forum) why my blog isn't loading correctly all the time and I think what I am getting is the "light" version that you describe to Sonia. I have a pretty big blog, but this never happens in (maybe an older version of) IE runnning on an XP box and when it happens in Firefox I can hit home and it usually will reload properly. It will NEVER load in IE 10 running in Windows 7. I can't get anyone to respond to this on the forum and I have to be able to fix it or I need ot leave Blogger. Any ideas?

    7. Here's the hard truth - Blogger thinks Dynamic Templates are not meant to be customised, and they think it is due to these customisations that these 'ghost' templates are appearing. Personally, I've seen this happening on blogs that uncustomised. That said, I don't think anything will be done about it - at least not by Blogger. On your behalf, you might wanna minimize your blog's initial load. You don't want to use background or header images that are very large, and you'd wanna go easy on the customisations. Some browsers tend to work better over the rest - my Chrome rarely sees the ghost templates, unlike my Firefox and my IE.

  44. Hello Yoga, I'm a novice blogger and a huge fan of your tutorials. But in order for me to raise my game I need massive support both for hits and financial stuff. I am trying to put the DONATE button on my blog but I can't manage to do it. I used the HTML/JavaScript gadget and pasted the code generated from my PayPal account, saved it, and viewed my blog. Sadly, none of my actions worked. I thought that maybe you can help me with my problem. I know a lot of bloggers are also into this and needed help posting it. I hope you can help me with this using your tweaks and all your knowledge. More power.

    1. Hi there,

      The HTML/Javascript gadget is still not supported in Dynamic View, as of yet. It is the only gadget that is incompatible with dynamic templates at the moment. That said, we can expect Blogger to support this gadget some time in the future. For now, you might wanna consider creating a page for your Donate button, and link this page to your Menu bar. Or, if you can present your Paypal page in a link form (instead of a button), you can use the Linklist gadget to add it to your sidebar - but I'm not sure if it is possible to represent the button in link form. You might wanna run this by Paypal while we wait Blogger to support HTML/Javascript gadget in Dynamic templates.

      Cheers and God bless :)

    I've just added your CSS to get the 'follow' gadget to show permanently...
    The problem is now that it overlaps the header, permanently.

    Please can you advise how to get the gadget to drop-down a bit and start under the header?

    Also, how to get the nav to show permanently?

    1. Hi Pennington,

      This is what I gave to Jerry before:

      #gadget-dock:before{
      content: "Subscribe" !important;
      position: relative;
      left: 3px !important;
      font-size: 10px !important;
      color: white !important;
      }

      This will only work if you have a single gadget, or if you wanna give a heading for your gadget dock. It will not work if you wanna give all your gadgets a sub-heading.

      That said, I MIGHT be able to come up with something if I could have a look at your blog. Can't promise anything, as it doesn't look feasible, right off the top of my head. But worth a try.

    1. Hi Prashant,

      You're referring to what we call the 'Ghost' template. In my personal opinion, I think something is flawed in the design of DV templates itself. But Blogger thinks this happens due to heavy customisations - even though I've seen it happening on blogs that have not been customised before. On your part, there isn't much you can do. You could, however, try to reduce the start load of your blog, so that the browser won't have so much to do. You can start by reducing the size of images that are loaded at startup, like those of your blog's background, and those in the posts.

    1. That's odd.. Let's try a quick test. Go backup your 'Add CSS' box's content (just copy and paste it somewhere), and the empty the box and save your template. This should remove all your customisation, and if there's some piece of code that's hiding your gadget, you should be able to see your gadget again. Then we can work our way to find out the culprit.
