'Follow by Email' Gadget Can Be Readily Added In Blogger Dynamic Views

We've had the ability to add gadgets to Dynamic View for over 6 months now, but only a number of gadgets are currently supported. These supported gadgets are typically marked with a red tag (that says 'Available for Dynamic Views') when you view the list of gadgets in your Layout tab. Oddly, the 'Follow by Email' gadget isn't one of the marked gadgets, although it can be readily added to your Dynamic View templates. There is no sorcery as to how one could add this gadget - you add it like how you'd add any other gadget.. But since the (non-)availability of this gadget is somewhat misleading, I thought I'd throw this out anyway. There's really no special steps in this post, but I'll just walk you through anyway..

Go to Dashboard - Layout - Add a Gadget - Choose 'Follow by Email'..

You'd see a Feedburner feed automatically created for your blog. Keep it intact, and choose 'Save'.. That's it, you should see a 'Subscribe via Email' gadget when you click on your 'Subscribe' gadget on your blog (that last gadget in your gadget dock)..

  2. Hi,

Been following a lot of your tips from the website and am somewhat happy with the design I now have: http://www.thescriptguide.blogspot.com

However, I am looking to have a larger banner at the top similar to this:

    http://thegagamanportfolio.blogspot.co.uk/

I guess the banner has been achieved by setting it as the background, but how has the height of the header been adjusted? The same user has a link to a blog (linked on the site, but at a different address: http://gagaman.blogspot.co.uk/) which then has a different header. This is using a non-dynamic theme, so how is the header image added here to match the background?

Also, my blog appears differently on other browsers, so on Internet Explorer, the full width of the banner is seen, but on Chrome on my small screen laptop, everything is compact (which I prefer). Is there anyway to set the dynamics to appear the same for all browsers?

A huge thanks in advance for answering any questions and for all the tips you have provided me and everyone else with so far!

  3. Also... I just tried this gadget and now when I click Subscribe the options don't pop out. If I remove it then the Subscribe options revert back to working order.

    1. Hi Alan,

Q1: but how has the height of the header been adjuste

A1: This is how you add a larger header image:

      http://www.southernspeakers.net/2011/10/add-header-in-blogger-dynamic-view.html

Q2: how is the header image added here to match the background

A2: I'm not quite clear on what the question is. You'd add a non-dynamic header using the Layout - Header - Edit function, and a dynamic header using the CSS way (linked in Q1)

Q3: Is there anyway to set the dynamics to appear the same for all browsers?

A3: Your blog looks the same in IE and Chrome, from my end. Could you send some comparative screenshots of what you're seeing?

Q4: I just tried this gadget and now when I click Subscribe the options don't pop out.

A4: Working fine from my end. Here's a screenshot --> http://i.imgur.com/z9poy.png Try clearing your cache/cookies.

Anyways, your blog loads up pretty quickly from my end, and honestly, there isn't much you can do since you're using a Dynamic View template. In any case, you can google for 'blog load speed' and you'll get many tips on how you can fasten your blog's load speed.

      Cheers :)

  7. Hi there, your blog is brilliant! I have used so many of your tips for blogger dynamic view so thank you very much for all the work you put into this.

I have one problem I can't solve. Previously I have used java mailto encoders to hide email addresses on my blogs from spammers. These don't seem to work with dynamic views. Is there a solution that will hide my address but still enable me to provide a clickable "mail me" link?

    1. Hi Mary,

Hmm.. It ain't good as Dynamic View templates don't work so well with third party java scripts.. I've got two suggestions though:

      1) Try pasting the java mailto encoders script to your posts, in the HTML part (as opposed to the 'Compose' view).. You're gonna have to do it for all your posts though..

      2) If java mailto encoders is a dead-end, you could set up a dedicated page and insert a contact form in there, like what I have here --> http://www.southernspeakers.net/p/ask-question.html

These forms do work with Dynamic View templates. Instead of linking your email in your posts, add a link to this page instead.. You'd receive email notifications when your readers use this form, and you could just reply to these emails. An actual way to let users email you without knowing your address that actually works with Dynamic View.

      All the best :)
      Cheers.

  8. Thank Yoga for looking at my question. I'll see if I can do what I want with the form.

Pasting the code in HTML view had a strange effect. The rest of the page was ignored and the browser (firefox) only displayed the mail link when I viewed that post in the blog. The mail link worked - but nothing else on the page showed up!

  11. Hello!!! Thank you for all your help!!! I love your website...
Is there a way to change the title "subscribe" and "subscibe by e-mail"? My blog is not in English!!
By the way (just another question), how come sometimes the whole set-up disappears and I have to reload my blog once or twice?

    1. Hi Marine,

I'll see what I can do. What would you like to change them into?

As for the settings-disapperance, we call it the ghost template. We're not exactly sure why it happens, but the people at Blogger thinks it is because the customisation in your page is too much for your browser to handle..

  12. Awesome blog. Quick question, is there anyway I can get the gadgets to be displayed on my page rather than being hidden? If my mouse isn't on the gadgets they hide into the side of the page. I'm wondering if there is any way around this because it's hard for people to see.

    1. Hi Mente,

I'm afraid we can't change this text. It is an iframe element and there's simply no where to change the text (not even with Java)..

    1. Hi Sarah,

Looks like you've manually added the code to hide the gadget:

      #gadget-dock div.gadget-item:last-child, #spk{display: none !important;}

You need to remove this code from your 'Add CSS' box. Cheers :)

  15. Hi Yoga,

Many thanks for your really helpful blog, I'm really glad I can personalize my blog thanks to your tips :)

But I still face an issue with my Gadgets...
Some gadgets appear (Translate, archives, subscribe,..) but follow by e-mail doesn't ...

I have already installed the "Follow by e-mail" gadget and tried to make it appear by installing and removing this gadget many times but it still doesn't work...

Would you have a solution for this ?

    I also face another problem:
I would like to open external links in another page => now the new website opens on the same page (so the visitor has to leave the blog, which is not really good...)
Again do you have a solution? :)

Thanks and keep on updating your wonderful blog :)

    1. I'm afraid the ability to make links open in new tabs have long been removed from Dynamic View templates.

As for the follow by email gadget, you need to have your subscribe gadget visible, as they are merged as one. I don't see the subscribe gadget in your page (which should appear by default without being added)

    2. I just added a piece of HTML to get my other external linked pages to open a new tab. It worked!

I edit the HTML and add this(had to remove brackets <>): base target='_blank'/

      Worked like a charm.

  18. Hi I've solved this problem by adding a page that supports html. I've copied the feedcode from feedburner and pasted into that page. A blank page with just the code will not work. So I've added text first. I hope this helps! http://dekroniekenvanh.blogspot.be/p/handige-gadgets_13.html

I am trying to add the email follow button to my page but keep getting this message:

We couldn't find or create a FeedBurner feed for your blog. Make sure that your blog is public and that you've enabled feeds on the Settings | Site Feed tab.

Thank you so much for helping us with the blogger dynamic templates. Your site and you are awesome. Keep up giving all the attention to your readers as you normally do. I would really appreciate if you help me with the following issue:

After I changed my old template for dynamic view my gadget follow by email was not migrated. I can see it still exists on my layout but it doesn't appear on my blog. I also tried to insert this gadget again but it didn't work. What should I do?
